Who knew Seth Macfarlane’s Bernie Sander’s introduction back
in October was such an important moment in American history. Three and a half
minutes into his speech Macfarlane talked about health care saying how much he
liked his fancy Beverley Hills doctor while appreciating the need for a public
option. One can only hope the comedian spoke to Sanders about his speech and
the two had an understanding. With only a handful of points away from Hillary
Clinton now in January, this is the issue that would crush Clinton and make all
the anti-socialist sirens completely mute. Unfortunately the question remains.
Was Macfarlane, wrong? Will Sanders entertain a public option?
Bringing this up
with supporters on Facebook has drawn some likes but also some contrary comments
from people who see Bernie as “backing down” or “triangulating” if anything but
a single payer system is proposed.
What’s worse is the complete neglect from
the media on this issue. No one has asked Sanders about the public option even
during the cycle after Hillary and Chelsea attacked him erroneously saying he
would “rip up the ACA and eliminate private insurance”.
All Sanders has to do
is say that he would consider the public option for health care, at the
very least as a possible transition to single payer. A move that would
ultimately lower the price tag on our plans as well as on our taxes to pay for
making universal health care a reality. I sincerely do not believe the American
people would accept anything less, not to mention getting 60 senators and the house
on board.
Hope remains as the Senator has yet to divulge his final health care
plan. Adding strong a public option to it may be reaching for the stars but any
inclination towards it would indeed usher in the revolution to get our
democracy back. Or is Seth Macfarlane a
liar?
